The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a
Professorship in Didactics of Mathematics with focus on the primary school sector
(legal basis: W 2 LBesG NRW; § 36 HG NRW).
The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The position is to be taken up at the earliest possible date.
We are looking for a personality with excellent qualifications in the field "Didactics of Mathematics", especially in the primary school sector. Both experience in and willingness to acquire third-party funding are desirable. We appreciate school experience, e.g. proven by a second state examination (in the German school service system) in primary education and subsequent practical teaching experience. Connections to the research interests of the working group "Didactics and History of Mathematics" are appreciated. The willingness for intra- and interdisciplinary cooperation, especially with the School of Education, as well as for connecting teaching and research with cooperations with schools in the region are expected. In teaching, a broad participation both in didactic and in subject-related teaching duties in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes of prospective mathematics teachers are requested, the primary school sector constituting the main focus.
Prerequisite is a university degree in mathematics (preferably Master of Education or First State Examination for Primary School) and a very good doctorate in mathematics didactics.
Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure. They include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic autonomy at the university.
