Professorship (§36 HG NRW) in “Structural Concrete”

(legal basis: W 3 LBesG NRW).

The position will be based in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The position is to be taken up by October 01st 2026.

For the advertised professorship, we are looking for a civil engineer with both proven scientific performance and practical experience in challenging projects in Structural Concrete.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Your potential field of work is Structural Concrete in research and teaching, including all aspects from design and planning to recalculation and repair.
  • You have relevant research and project experience in structural engineering as well as in-depth knowledge in several of the following areas: Design and construction, prestressed concrete, bridges, design and planning of engineering structures and load-bearing structures, as-built assessment including recalculation and service life estimation, aspects of resource-conserving and sustainable construction as well as experimental research in Structural Concrete.
  • In teaching, the aim is to offer an attractive range of courses for the school’s degree programmes in German, covering the basics and in-depth knowledge in all areas of Structural Concrete and concrete bridge design. You are open to modern teaching methods and questions of lifelong learning.
  • In cooperation with colleagues in the school, you will use the testing lab of the Institute of Structural Engineering including testing facilities as well as other laboratories for BIM, VR/AR, computer-aided modelling and robotics in research and teaching.
  • We expect cooperation in academic self-administration. Active participation in the management of the Institute of Structural Engineering is also desirable.
  • You have relevant experience in research in solid construction, e.g. in the acquisition of third-party funding and research contracts and/or in research networks and cooperations.
  • Relevant experience in outstanding projects in solid construction is desirable.
  • You are interested in the innovative further development of Structural Concrete in research and teaching as well as interdisciplinary cooperation with the school and university. Within the Institute of Structural Engineering of the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, a focus on bridge construction is sought.

Your visible profile and experience in the above-mentioned tasks and requirements is documented in publications, relevant project experience, activities in national or international committees and / or successful acquisition of third-party funding.

Requirements:

  • Completed university degree in civil engineering or structural engineering.
  • Aptitude for scientific work, usually proven by the quality of a doctorate, desirable with a topic relevant for the advertised professorship.
  • Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate.
  • Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure.
