The Doha Institute’s newly launched Journalism Program invites applications for an open-rank faculty position in Journalism.
DI is a private, independent and not-for-profit post-graduate academic institution. It offers 18 Masters programs through the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, the School of Public Administration and Development Economics, and the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies. The Doha Institute is located in the heart of the Qatari capital, Doha, which is a cultural, media, and educational hub located in the heart of the Arab region. Doha hosts a variety of international sporting events, including the 2022 World Cup, and boasts a plethora of cultural icons, traditional souqs, modern malls, world-class museums and exhibits, luxury man-made islands, and one of the world’s best airports.
Job responsibilities for the faculty position in Journalism include teaching two courses per semester, carrying out either a scholarly research or creative/professional program, academic and thesis/capstone advising, and serving on program and school committees. Program courses include news reporting and writing, digital journalism, investigative journalism, multimedia storytelling and writing for new media. The new faculty member will also assist with the establishment and production of a new online student newspaper.
The ideal candidate for the Journalism faculty position will have an undergraduate or graduate degree in Journalism and proven professional experience as a multiplatform journalist. Knowledge of Arabic and prior teaching experience are preferred, but not required.
The appointment is to commence December 2020. The search will continue until the position is filled.
