Together with industrial, clinical, governmental partners and non-profit organisations, ETH Zurich launched the Rehabilitation Initiative with the aim of strengthening and expanding Switzerland's excellent position as a leading international hub for rehabilitation research. In this context, ETH Zurich is establishing a research lab in the field of "Personalised Health Care for Spinal Cord Injury". A partnership with the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation (SPS) and the Swiss Paraplegic Center (SPZ) enables us to combine the best expertise from clinical and engineering fields to advance the activities in research and technology transfer in such a way that people with spinal paralysis, the clinical environment and the Swiss healthcare system can benefit promptly and sustainably. The Head of Research Lab in Medical Data Acquisition and Processing will lead the lab that is located at the prestigious Swiss Paraplegic Center (SPZ) in Nottwil, Switzerland.
A versatile and challenging task in a clinical and academic environment awaits you. The focus is on holistic measures that have a comprehensive and long-term impact on the persons concerned, the healthcare system and the society. The aim of the research group is to detect various, common functional disorders and diseases of patients with spinal cord injury at an early stage, i.e. before the typical clinical symptoms appear, through an automated, intelligent evaluation of a large volume of data (Big Data). The lab is located at the Swiss Paraplegic Center in Nottwil, Canton Lucern, Switzerland, and has a direct link to a large clinical facility with spinal cord injured inpatients and outpatients, and clinical experts.
Your responsibility will be to carry out world-class research and provide innovative solutions in personalized health care for patients with spinal cord injury and other life-long neurologic impairments. As part of this responsibility, you will provide technical support and project management leadership to a group of doctoral students, undergraduate and masters’ students. You will collaborate with senior researchers, health care providers, and clinicians (physicians, therapists, caregivers). Your ultimate goal is to lead the group towards the development of new types of predictive models and care systems based on the interaction between “machines” and clinicians to establish best practices and prognoses in the diagnosis and treatment for individual patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. Furthermore, involvement in coordinating various other research aspects is expected, including writing grant proposals and exploring new research opportunities for the group.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents:
Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
