Thesis subject: Substrate channeling and structural dynamics in vitamin B6 biosynthesis Substrate channeling and structural dynamics in vitamin B6 biosynthesis probed by high pressure and time-resolved macromolecular crystallography You will join the Structural Biology Group Groups at the ESRF and the University of Southampton to pursue studies in high-pressure macromolecular crystallography to map gas channels in proteins. Specifically, you will investigate ammonia substrate transport through an internal protein channel in the vitamin B6 biosynthetic enzyme Pdx1 from plants, bacteria or from the malaria causing pathogen Plasmodium. You will combine crystallography at cryogenic temperatures with time resolved studies at room temperature, using serial crystallography and spectroscopic techniques.

- Degree allowing enrollment for a PhD (such as MSc, Master 2 de Recherche, Laurea or equivalent) in biology, biophysics, chemistry, or physics or a closely related science

- A background in structural biology or biophysical methods is desirable

- Ability to interact within a multi-disciplinary team

- Wide interest in instrumentation, methodology and applied biological research

- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
