The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is one of the largest universities in Germany with around 41,000 students and with about 5,800 employees. The Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of the Collaborative Research Center 1507 “Membrane-associated Protein Assemblies, Machineries, and Supercomplexes” (CRC 1507) at Goethe University Frankfurt offers as soon as possible several positions of

PhD Students / Research Assistants (m/f/x)
(E 13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time)

for a limited period of four years. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U) or to the participating institutions.

In our collaborative research center, 19 project leaders and around 100 employees work on the mechanistic elucidation of protein complexes and machineries at cell membranes, thus making pioneering contributions to biomedicine and the treatment of diseases. The Integrated Research Training Group, as part of the CRC 1507, is dedicated to scientifically educate PhD students and to accompany them on their way to a successful PhD thesis. The IRTG invites you to apply for PhD positions within our research association. Become part of an international team of scientists focusing on interdisciplinary basic research in life sciences!

We offer:

  • Training in topics and techniques relevant for your research and your PhD project
  • Scientific education in generic skills (e.g., scientific writing, graphic design and project management)
  • Mentoring by a Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC), individually tailored to your research focus
  • Travel funds to visit workshops, conferences, and international laboratories
  • Team-building seminars and retreats with the IRTG
  • Joint meetings and exchange with other RTGs and CRCs
  • Networking with national and international collaboration partners
  • Industry excursions and career perspective seminars

Your qualifications:

  • A scientific master’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, molecular biology, or related disciplines
  • Very good English skills (written and oral)
  • Practical scientific expertise and strong theoretical background in one of the research fields
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a high degree of scientific curiosity
  • Enthusiasm for basic research and a strong willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams
