The KU Leuven Flow and Mass Cytometry core facility (short KU Leuven FACS core) is a training and service facility belonging to the Biomedical Science Group at the KU Leuven. Our team provides flow and mass cytometry services as well as cell sorting support to a large and diverse user base. Many of our instruments are independently operated by our users for which they receive extensive training by our facility team. The facility is managed by the general operations and technical operations managers who are supported and advised by the director and the steering committee. The KU Leuven FACS core facility strives for technological advancement and for offering the best available technology and best service to its user base. We have been the first academic facility in Belgium to place a Mass Cytometer, the first to place a SONY ID7000 spectral analyser and are now the first to have placed an IsoPlexis instrument. As flow cytometry technician, you will be given the opportunity to be trained at all instrumentation available in the core facility. Together with the FACS Core managers and the core facility team members, you will contribute to user trainings and develop, improve and implement research techniques that contribute to the accurate completion of projects involving flow cytometry and related technologies. In your function, you will contribute substantially to research projects that depend on the FACS Core Facility. Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • run multi-user mass cytometry analysis and flow cytometry analysis and sorting by operating, maintaining, and trouble-shooting the equipment
  • assist core users with technical aspects of instrument use, optimal experimental design and data analysis
  • you contribute to theoretical and practical user trainings on a variety of analysis and cell sorting instrumentation
  • provide theoretical and practical training to core facility users on a variety of instruments
  • write corresponding SOPs
  • you are co-responsible for maintaining the supply inventory necessary for uninterrupted site operation
  • you are co-responsible for data archiving in accordance with the core facility requirements

Profile

  • You have a Bachelor degree in any of the Life Sciences
  • You possess basic computer skills and knowledge of data processing programs (such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc...)
  • You have experience with flow cytometry data analysis programs (such as FlowJo, FCS Express)
  • You have demonstrated ability to interpret and explain the theoretical basis of the work performed
  • You have good knowledge of the underlying principles of flow cytometry and cell sorting
  • Demonstrated experience in flow cytometry; working knowledge of the BD FACSAria, BD Influx, BD Symphony, BD Canto, Helios CyToF or spectral flow cytometric analysis instruments is considered an asset
  • A very good knowledge of spoken and written English is essential
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative spirit

We offer a full-time contract for a period of 1 year,with the possibility of extension for an indefinite period. This function is linked to a salary grade 4 or 5 aside with various benefits (https://admin.kuleuven.be/personeel/english/salary/salary_atp.html). The extent to which the candidate meets the job profile will determine the salary scale / sub-scale (allocated seniority).
