The selected candidate will show expertise (as shown by high quality international peer reviewed publications) in the following domain: group processes (intra- and/or intergroup).
The successful candidate will carry out research within the Center for Social and Cultural Psychology (Cescup: https://cescup.ulb.be).
Historically, Cescup has been characterized by a strong interest in social identity and intergroup relations. Building on and extending this legacy, more recent research has considered new areas such as sexualization and objectification as well as reactions to misinformation, social networks, collective memory and emotions, sexism and intergroup helping behavior. We seek a candidate who either strengthens or complements the current interests of the center.
Teaching and scientific goals
The successful candidate will teach courses (max 120 H per year, with a lighter load during the first years) related to social psychology mainly within the various programmes of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. In particular, the courses will be taught to Bachelor and Master students in the Faculty, as well as to Master students in social and cultural psychology. The selected candidate will also supervise Master and doctoral theses.
Courses that are part of the position:
General courses in the field of social psychology, group processes and intergroup relations. The teaching load could be adapted depending on the applicant’s profile but any new course would need to be integrated within the master in social and cultural psychology.
PhD Degree (with doctoral thesis) in psychological sciences or equivalent title
- Being active in one or several scientific associations in the field of social psychology (such as EASP) is an asset.
- Successful application for research funding is an asset.
- A demonstrated capacity to coordinate research projects is an asset.
- Having experience in supervising Master theses is an asset.
- Showing a capacity to develop societally relevant research is an asset.
- Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at University level are assets.
- A demonstrated capacity to develop a diversity of research methods and approaches is an asset.
- Knowledge of survey research (both methods and statistics, such as SEM and mixed models) is an asset.
- Coding skills for data analysis software are an asset.

The appointment to the academic staff of ULB is made at “Premier Assistant” level, if the candidate has had a PhD for less than eight years (on 1 October of the year of appointment). If the candidate has had a PhD for eight or more years, on 1 October of the year of appointment, then the appointment is made at “Chargé de Cours” level. As of their appointment, members of academic staff are authorised to use the honorary title of ”Professeur”.
