The Faculty of Applied Engineering, research group Cosys-Lab, and the Faculty of Sciences, research group AnSyMo, are looking for three full-time (100%) researchers in the field of cyber-physical systems.

Researcher Model-Based Engineering of Cyber-Physical Systems


  • You prepare a PhD on development methods for cyber-physical systems, with a focus on co-design, modeling, co-simulation or digital twins. The application domain of the research is oriented towards mechatronic applications such as vehicles and industrial machines.
  • You contribute to ongoing research projects on these topics. You interact with other research institutions. You interact with industry partners involved in the research projects.
  • You assist in teaching (e.g. lab sessions, student exercises, bachelor and master thesis supervision).
  • Post-doctoral candidates may also apply.


  • You hold a Master degree in Industrial Sciences Electronics or Computer Engineering, Engineering Electronics or Computer Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics or another equivalent Master degree.
  • You can show excellent study results.
  • We also encourage international researchers to apply.
  • You have excellent skills in informatics. Experience in artificial intelligence (and more concretely in ontologies, Bayesian networks, …) is not mandatory but is regarded as a plus.
  • You are motivated to dig deeper in the world of development methods and tools for mechatronic systems. Knowledge on embedded systems and embedded software is a plus.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You can speak and write fluently in English.

What we offer

  • We offer a full-time contract as a researcher (master level) for a period of 1 year with possibilities to extension up to 4 years after positive evaluation.
  • The tentative start date is 1 February 2022 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for an assistant in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at Campus Groenenborger or at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
  • You will closely interact with Flanders Make, the Flemish strategic research centre for the manufacturing industry.
