JOB DESCRIPTION

A full-time academic position, indivisible position, in the field of « Computer Vision and Data Analysis for Sports Understanding » within the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. This position includes teaching and research activities, as well as services to the community.

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

The new faculty member (M/F/X) will take part in the teaching activities in the following fields:

  • Technical foundations of data acquisition and processing, 
  • Advanced computer vision,
  • Data sciences for sports.

He/She will also participate in the supervision of internships and graduate work in his/her field of research.

The teaching load will be limited to 250 hours per year (including practical work and seminars).

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

The candidate will develop research in computer vision and its application to the analysis of sporting activities. This research will involve, e.g., around the acquisition of large volumes of data, the integration of heterogeneous data produced by multi-sensor or multimodal systems, their real-time processing, and the automatic interpretation according to the application context and human-computer interactions.

The candidate is expected to collaborate with other researchers active in the field of scientific supervision of sporting activities (in particular within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine), as well as with Walloon and international companies active in this sector.

SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY

The candidate will take part in community activities to ensure the outreach of the activities developed within the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department. He/She will:

  • Promote his/her work within research networks, companies and public institutions active in his/her field of expertise,
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Department, the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and the University of Liège, through its various bodies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / PROFILE

  • Hold a PhD in engineering or in computer science, or an equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Have international research experience and publications in established journals or conferences.
  • Be able to teach in English. Being able to teach in French will be considered as a plus.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee defined by the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Short-listed candidates will then be invited to a hearing that will include a short lesson on a given topic, a presentation of their research project, and a general discussion with the selection committee.

  • A copy of diplomas and certificates,
  • A list of 5 main publications, and a description of their contribution to the state of the art,
  • A summary of past and current research activities and a research plan for the next years, including the planned integration within the University of Liège,
  • A summary of previous teaching experience and a teaching plan,
  • The names and addresses of three international experts who can write a letter of recommendation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The position is awarded for a fixed term of four years.

The holder of the academic position may be confirmed as a member of the academic body of the University of Liège for an indefinite period after three years, on the basis of an evaluation of the quality of his/her academic activities and a re-analysis of the financial resources available, in particular through industrial sponsorship of research and teaching activities.
