Over de werkgever

With approximately 4,500 students and 160 professors, aided and abetted by over 100 contract lecturers and more than 300 technicians and administrative staff, the Hochschule Mannheim is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The engineering departments (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering) continuied from the former Mannheim School of Engineering, established back in 1898.

Most of the graduate programmes offered still centre around these subjects. In line with ongoing progress in science and technology, the University has also responded to the changing requirements of the labour market, supplementing the engineering departments with new and innovative study programmes in computer science, engineering and management and biotechnology. After the integration of the College of Design and the merger with the College of Social Studies, the Hochschule Mannheim now offers a broader range of study programmes than most of the other universities of applied sciences. This broad spectrum and the synergies it produces provide a sound basis for the acquisition of the requisite methodical competence and specialist knowledge, in conjunction with social skills and interdisciplinary thinking.

Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar

With all the assets of a modern university campus, the Hochschule Mannheim provides students with ideal conditions for squaring up to the requirements posed by the professional careers they have set their sights on. Close working contacts with industry, professional associations and cultural institutions, together with the Karl Völker Foundation affiliated to the University, represent an ideal breeding ground for internationally acclaimed research and development activities. For many years the Hochschule Mannheim has been one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg. As such, it enables its students to participate in a wide range of research and development projects prior to graduation.

Student welfare first

All activities at the Hochschule Mannheim are geared to one overriding aim: the success of its graduates. To achieve this aim, the University maintains a number of institutions which provide students with additional qualifications to those acquired in their departments and supporting them both in getting to grips with their studies and in embarking on their future careers. The Career Centre offers seminars for all students on topics such as job application training, presentation techniques and time management. It also provides individual counselling during the transition from higher education to the career stage. The seminars and advisory services involve no extra charges for the students and graduates of the Hochschule can also avail themselves of these offers. The International Office provides a wide range of services supporting all students intending to spend part of their study period abroad. The in-house Language Centre offers numerous language courses from English to Chinese designed to ensure that students are ideally prepared for a period of study elsewhere. The central concern of the Trainee Programme developed by the Hochschule Mannheim is to enable students to gain professional experience while still at the University. Various companies in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region provide outstanding students with part-time employment in the course of their studies, thus assisting them with invaluable practical experience and a source of income with which to defray their study expenses. The outstanding study conditions at the Hochschule Mannheim guarantee ideal career prospects for its graduates. All students have access to the modern University library and IT support from the Computer Centre. Student administration is housed all in one place, at the Student Services Centre. Many of the formalities involved can be conveniently dealt with online. Last but not least, the Hochschule offers its 4,500 students attractive sporting facilities in conjunction with the University of Mannheim.
