Developing world-class scientists in one of the world’s great cities The Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Koç University welcomed its first students in 1999 and was recognized as one of the best engineering schools in Turkey within a short span of time. From that day on, our mission is to create new knowledge in order to advance engineering internationally and to stimulate development of innovative technologies of high societal impact. Today, Koç University located in Istanbul, Turkey is ranked #8 in the world's best small universities and #36 in the world’s best universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education and offers all graduate programs in English with full scholarships.
We currently host 460 graduate students from Europe, Asia, North America, Africa and Turkey of course, and they all share two common traits: intellectual curiosity and an outstanding academic track record. Our aim is to recruit the best students, work with the best faculty and give both freedom to innovate and achieve state of the art developments and discoveries. Being a small university means that our faculty-student ratio enables proper time for supervision, teaching and research. Our MSc and PhD students work with 50 faculty members who are young in general and very active in research. The majority (95% to be exact) have received their PhD degrees from the top universities of Europe and US. Most of them worked as faculty members in leading American and European universities before coming to Koç University. They are responsible for multiple national and international research grants, publishing at a rate of 100 publications in top scientific journals per year and obtaining over 90 industrial patents in the last five years. As a PhD candidate at Koç University you are considered a colleague, not a student and not a teaching assistant. This is why we provide all the support needed to help you achive your best during your time here. All of our graduate students are supported either by Koç University with full scholarships or through the projects led by our faculty members. The KU Graduate Fellowship for both MSc and PhD admitted international candidates includes:
