YOUR TASKS

You will work on a 12-month research project on advanced process intensification for amine-based CO₂ capture systems.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Developing rate-based process models in ASPEN Plus to simulate CO₂ absorption-desorption systems with realistic mass transfer and chemical kinetics
  • Implementing thermodynamic models and kinetic parameters for conventional and mixed amine solvents
  • Conducting techno-economic analysis to evaluate energy integration strategies and heat pump configurations
  • Analysing CO₂ absorption mechanisms and their impact on CO₂ loading capacity and regeneration energy requirements
  • Investigating synergies between process modifications and kinetic enhancement options
  • Performing performance assessments using industrial KPIs including energy efficiency and capital/operational costs

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree (or preferably graduate/finishing PhD) in chemical engineering.
  • You have a thorough understanding, knowledge and expertise in the field of chemical engineering.
  • You have a thorough understanding and knowledge of carbon capture technologies.
  • You have expertise in chemical process simulation, process design and heat integration methodologies.
  • You have experience with process simulators: Aspen Plus, HYSYS, PetroSIM
  • You have experience performing techno-economic or life cycle assessment and publications in the field.
  • You have hands-on experience performing research for industrial partners as well as reporting to them.
  • Excellent communication skills in English – both oral and written as well as mediation skills
  • You live in Belgium or are willing to settle here for the duration of the appointment.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 1 year.
  • Your contract will start on 1/09/2025 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
