YOUR TASKS
- The new colleague becomes an active team member of the UGent Center of Data Analysis and Statistical Science (DASS). He/she will thus participate in the valorization of statistical expertise in applied research.
- Key tasks involve 1) collaboration in the context of contract based research and consulting for internal and external clients as well as 2) statistical advising and training of young researchers from diverse disciplines.
- We expect the candidate to work sufficiently independently on specific tasks within the team. He/she is further expected to bring experience in applied statistical research, including interaction with clients. The new colleague will also collaborate with professors of the DASS Expert Center, who lead projects and on whose expert knowledge one can draw.
- One will help answer relevant research questions through data analysis and for this one will select the methods well, motivate them and interpret their results in the context of the clients. Analyses will be conducted with several software packages for statistical data analysis (possibly including R, SAS, Python, …).
- The new colleague may acquire new knowledge and techniques, apply them and distribute them to this end.
- Depending on the candidate, one can also participate in the development of new methodology in function of the application.
- Our applications are often found in biostatistics and related fields (including clinical studies and health economics), we regularly encounter causal questions and survival analysis.
- Team meetings will be organized for the planning of tasks, the follow-up of good statistical practice, and support of the administration and logistics for the unit.
- Our colleagues communicate fluently and professionally in English, both in writing and orally.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a Master degree in Statistical Data Analysis or have at least equivalent knowledge and experience.
- You have more in depth experience with empirical research as witnessed by a PhD thesis and/or a substantial contribution to publications in a relevant domain. A background in biomedical or behavioral sciences with a focus on statistical methods is especially appreciated.
- You have experience in applying statistical methods for the design and analysis of applied research in view of generating reproducible and reliable evidence for relevant questions.
- The ideal candidate is fluent in R and/or SAS and/or Python and has experience with clinical studies.
- The candidate is client oriented and a careful worker, with a great sense of responsibility, dedicated to correct project management.
- The candidate is a team player and good communicator with clients, peers and project leaders.
- The candidate is eager to learn new methods in function of a project.
- The candidate is enthusiastic and has didactical talent for teaching.
- Diversity is seen as added value in the framework of the DASS expert center as it brings complementary skills and knowledge to the team.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with an employment rate of 50% (a higher employment rate is negotiable).
- Your contract will start on the 15th of July at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
