YOUR TASKS 

  • You will assist in the practice-based teaching at the department (i.e. organization, counselling and assessment of practical exercises and excursions), in particular for the field of applied or decorative arts and design 19th-21st century, specifically the following annual and biennial courses: Historisch Interieur en Design (Historic Interiors and Design), Onderzoeksvaardigheden II (Research Skills II) and Fashion & Textiles. You are also responsible for the practical organisation of the annual Studiedag Historisch Interieur en Design (Study Day on Historical Interiors and Design). Heavy points in terms of workload are situated at the start of each semester, during the examination periods and in the run-up to the study day.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 

  • You hold a degree of Master in Art History. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment

For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted

  • You are involved in other professional activities and/or you have demonstrable experience that may contribute to the quality of the practice-based teaching at the department
  • You are interested in a teaching assignment in the field concerned
  • You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended
  • You have a broad knowledge of the applied/decorative arts and design of the 19th-21st centuries
  • You have a good knowledge of the Belgian museum, art and design world.
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch, both in written and spoken form.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU 

  • We offer you a 3-year appointment, which may be renewed indefinitely for five years at a time. Attention: You cannot be appointed for a cumulative percentage of more than 30% as a Teaching Assistant at Ghent University
  • Your appointment will start on 1 December 2025 at the earliest
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3. More information about our salary scales
