The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels.  The department has three international master's programs, including a specialization in health promotion and prevention within the public health sciences program. The specialisation has several experienced teachers involved but currently lacks a subject representative.

Description of the subject area

Health promotion and prevention are characterized by how health-promoting and preventive measures are developed, evaluated, and implemented within various public health areas and public health diseases. Health interventions can be directed towards community structure, environment, healthcare systems, working life, as well as people's living conditions and habits in different groups within the population.

Your mission

In this position you will conduct research and act as subject representative to develop and strengthen the education and research in health promotion and prevention, within public health sciences. You will also develop collaborations with other teachers and researchers in the field, both nationally and internationally. The position includes supervising at all levels. The role also includes actively contributing to the department's other activities and to a strong scientific environment. You will also be expected to help attract research funding within the field in national and international competition.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills and very good scientific skills. You shall have substantial research experience in health promotion and prevention.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (3) and, leadership and collaboration skills (1).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that you have demonstrated

  • Experience of course responsibility and in developing teaching elements and course content at undergraduate, advanced, or doctoral level, in particular within health promotion and prevention.
  • Experience of teaching and supervision at all levels, in particular within health promotion and prevention.
  • Experience and broad methodological expertise in implementation research that includes both impact and process studies of interventions.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
