Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) is a national research infrastructure providing state-of-the-art technologies and expertise in chemical biology and drug discovery to academic researchers, healthcare, and industry. We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to join our Biology team and contribute to the development and delivery of advanced high-throughput screening services.

Your mission

As a Staff Scientist, you will play a central role in designing, developing, executing, and analyzing screening projects across a broad range of disease areas and biological systems. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of biologists, medicinal chemists, data scientists, and external collaborators to deliver high-quality, reproducible research while helping users translate innovative biological questions into robust screening assays.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, optimize, and execute high-throughput screening assays.
  • Support academic and industrial users in experimental design and assay development.
  • Perform high-throughput screening campaigns using automated screening platforms.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate results from large-scale screening projects.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of experiments, protocols, quality control, and project outcomes.
  • Work closely with colleagues in biology, automation, data analysis, and project management to deliver successful projects.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new technologies, screening methodologies, and workflows that strengthen CBCS services.
  • Participate in maintaining high scientific and technical standards across the Biology team.

Your profile

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining experimental and scientific excellence with collaborative, service-oriented research and who is motivated by enabling the success of a diverse community of researchers.

You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, communicate effectively with researchers from different scientific backgrounds, and take pride in delivering high-quality, reproducible research.

You are organized, adaptable, and able to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Most importantly, you are motivated by enabling excellent science and contributing to the continued development of a national research infrastructure that supports cutting-edge research across Sweden

Required qualifications:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in biology, biotechnology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Documented experience with high-throughput screening in an academic, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO environment.
  • Experience designing or developing biological screening assays.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting large-scale screening datasets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with careful attention to detail.
  • A genuine interest in working as a Staff Scientist within a collaborative research infrastructure.
  • A service-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to supporting external users.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Meritorious qualifications, experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage:

  • High-content or image-based screening.
  • Quantitative image analysis and image processing.
  • Analysis of large-scale high-content imaging datasets.
  • Experience developing and optimizing diverse biological assay formats.
  • Experience working with multiple screening formats, including 96-, 384-, and 1536-well plate assays.
  • Laboratory automation and robotic screening platforms.
  • Programming or scripting for scientific data analysis (e.g., Python or R).
  • Experience working with different cell models, including primary cells, organoids, co-cultures, or other advanced in vitro models.
