Responsibilities

The development of sustainable methods to obtain critical raw materials from primary mineral resources and/or from residues and end-of-life streams is key to the energy transition. We are thus searching for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in electrochemistry and/or mechanochemistry as process intensification tools in hydrometallurgy. The primary research focus of the postdoctoral researcher will be the recycling of lithium-ion batteries by means of mechanochemical and electrochemical methods. Other responsibilities will be:
  • To work on the development of hydrometallurgical processes for primary and secondary raw materials and on the use of mechanochemistry and/or electrochemistry as a process intensification tool.
  • To contribute to the (co-)supervision of PhD students and Master students in the group.
  • To publish the outcomes of research in top academic journals and conferences.

Profile

As the ideal candidate:
  • You have obtained a PhD degree in chemical engineering, applied chemistry or relevant discipline
  • You have a strong background and hands-on experience in either of the following:
         - electrochemical hydrometallurgy (electrochemical kinetics, electrochemical methods)
         - preparation and testing of battery electrodes
         - mechanochemistry in hydrometallurgy

  • You have obtained clear scientific contributions during your PhD, e.g. shown through publications in relevant top academic journals.
  • You are able to communicate fluently at a high professionally level in English, both orally and in writing.
  • You are willing to contribute to grant proposals in the field of your expertise.

Offer

We offer:
  • an exciting job in an inspiring research environment, within an international team of enthusiastic colleagues at the most innovative university in Europe.
  • the possibility to participate at international conferences and be involved in multiple projects.
We offer a full-time postdoc position at KU Leuven for a maximum time of three years after an evaluation at the end of the first year. The salary is based on the KU Leuven standards linked to your experience.
