This position is available in the Laboratory for Inborn Errors of Immunity, within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation at KU Leuven.
The Laboratory is led by Isabelle Meyts, pediatrician-scientist and Leen Moens as senior post-doctoral scientist.

Project

Specific tasks for the PhD position are:
Building on data obtained during previous PhD projects on the topic, you will use various molecular biology and immunology techniques, advanced NGS techniques and imaging techniques to study Autoinflammatory disorders especially ADA2 deficiency. 

Profile

  • Excellent candidates with a master in bio-engineering, molecular immunology, biomedical sciences, medicine or any related discipline with evidence of interest in inborn errors of immunity and immunology
  • A strong academic track record from bachelor throughout master
  • Highly motivated candidate, interested in working in the context of inborn errors of immunity, hard worker with a creative industrious mind yet able to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English
  • The candidate is able to work independently, and is committed to working for the group, with an open communication style, a problem-solving attitude and critical mind set and is proactive and result-driven.
  • Practical knowledge of R-Studio and other bioinformatics tools are a plus.

Offer

  • We offer a full-time PhD position for 3 to 4 years after a positive initial evaluation. The PhD student will also be encouraged to apply for FWO or other mandate funding. The position will be based at University of Leuven (KU Leuven), where the candidates will be enrolled in the Doctorate Program in Biomedical Sciences.
  • You will be working in a dynamic and stimulating scientific environment together with an enthusiastic team of researchers under the lead of a physician-scientist and in close collaboration with the clinical PID team  at a top-ranked university, in a laboratory with a valid international network. 
  • You will receive a competitive salary in accordance with the KU Leuven scales for PhD students. 
  • You will have the opportunity to participate in national and international meetings, and to visit other research groups for scientific training or networking, if applicable.
