How will you contribute?

You have experience in composite manufacture and impact testing? You want to develop novel impact-resistant composite structures? Then we have a new opening for you! The Structural Composites (SC) Unit (around 50 individuals) is looking for a passionate postdoctoral researcher for a 24-month contract.

You will be working at the forefront of novel impact-resistant design, manufacture and testing of sandwich composites. In the framework of a project funded by the European Defence Agency (EDA), we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in manufacturing and testing impact-resistant composite structures.

You will be mainly in charge of:

  • Exchanging with stakeholders within the project
  • Conducting a state-of-the-art review of impact-resistant (ballistic) composite structures
  • Designing, manufacturing and testing impact-resistant (ballistic) composite structures
  • Supervising the manufacture and testing with partners of sub-scale and/or full-scale components
  • Disseminating the outcomes of your work (papers, conferences, …)

Education

  • PhD, graduated in composite materials with a strong emphasis on impact testing or closely related topics

Experience and skills

  • Proven skills in composite manufacturing and impact-resistant (ballistic) composite structures
  • Experience in impact testing (ballistic)
  • Proficient in advanced destructive (e.g. DIC) and non-destructive (e.g. US, SHM, …) methods
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Good track record of dissemination (papers, conferences, …)
  • Industry experience is a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills, attention to detail, critically minded, attitude to teamwork, both with the internal team and with external stakeholders, excellent verbal and written communication abilities

Language skills

  • Fluent in both written and spoken English, French is a plus
