About Entity (ASARI):

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). It is located in Laayoune City, in south of Morocco. Its vision is targeting real, local, regional, and African challenges in the fields of agricultural in dry lands and marginal environments, animal value chain, water and energy sustainability, biorefinery and bioenergy, cultivation and conversion of micro and macroalgae, and geology and mining.

Oriented towards Africa, ASARI acts in connection with a wide network of universities and research centers around the continent in order to link real field issues with up-to-date science. The institute has attracted multidisciplinary research teams composed of food engineers, agronomists, biochemists, biologists, … etc.

About Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) – UM6P Laayoune:

The Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) is a new component of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). It is located in Laayoune City and constitutes a structure of practical-based research with a vision of offering versatile infrastructure for cultivation and conversion of algae based on merging biotechnology, environmental science, and sustainability. Driven by innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the center aims to bridge research and practical applications for the development of a large spectrum of applications in agriculture, cosmetical, pharmaceuticals, feed and food industry, bioremediation, climate change mitigation, and renewable energy production. 

Description of the position:

  • Train and teach undergraduate and/or graduate students on marine biology, seaweeds cultivation, and aquaculture, as well as special courses related to the candidate's specialization. 
  • Supervise M.Sc. and PhD students.
  • Develop research proposals and instigate high-quality research aligned with the vision of the research center.
  • Participate in various committees at the center, college, and university levels.
  • Enhance the research profile of the center through the publication of research findings.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the management of the center.
  • Effectively disseminate research outcomes through publications and presentations to academic peers, students, and the broader community.
  • Dedicate to continuous professional development, staying abreast of the latest advancements in bioprocess engineering and related fields 

Education

  • Ph.D. in marine biology or a closely related field, demonstrating advanced knowledge in seaweed biology, ecology, and cultivation 

Requirement

  • Strong commitment to lead innovative research initiatives in bioprocessing technologies.
  • Active research profile, showcasing potential for future research independence through fellowship, co-investigation, collaboration, etc….
  • Experience in supervising M.Sc. and PhD within the seaweed biology domain.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in marine biology, specifically in seaweeds cultivation. 
  • Proficiency in collaborative work within multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Active engagement in research activities, such as writing research proposals and contributing to the research profile of the center through publications.
  • Established publication record in peer-reviewed journals as the first author.
  • Participation in relevant committees, commitment to continuous professional development, and effective communication of research outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities are essential.
