Job Description:

The Chemical and Biochemical Sciences-Green Process Engineering (CBS) at the University of Mohammed VI Polytechnic, Benguerir, Morocco, is seeking applicants for a Post-Doctoral position in Genomics and Bioinformatics/Computational Biology. The successful candidate will be part of the CBS and will conduct research in the field of genomics of eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms to better understand how genomes are structured and organized, how they evolve and how they function at the whole genome level. The candidate will also develop and maintain novel bioinformatics tools, pipelines and biological databases. The candidate will work with an enthusiastic team with diverse backgrounds.

Duties:

The specific responsibilities and tasks of the successful candidate will include:

1.  Conducting scientific research in the field of eukaryote/prokaryote genomics and molecular genetics to better understand how genomes are structured, organized, evolve and function at the whole genome level.

2. Develop a novel bioinformatics tools for analyzing genomics data.

3. Publish research results in high impact journals.

4. Collaborate with other UM6P researchers/groups on multidisciplinary research projects related to the field.

5. Development and implementation of research proposals.

6. Co-supervision and mentoring of Masters and PhD students and supporting their academic and professional development. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential (please indicate in cover letter):

1. PhD. in Genomics, Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or equivalent.

2. Proficiency in molecular biology laboratory techniques.

3. Experience supported by scientific records related to development new bioinformatics toolkits.

4. Practical experience in analyzing large datasets.

5. Programming skills (Python, Perl or R).

6. Demonstrated publication record in well-ranked journals.

7. Ability to generate new ideas, links, and to build upon existing ideas to generate good concepts and solutions.

8. Ability to work both in a team and independently.

9. Proven ability to meet academic writing requirements for developing proposals, reports and scientific publications.
