Dynamics and structural engineering are classic subjects within our education curriculum. Almost all technical officers are taught in these disciplines. Moreover, these disciplines are important for the performance of our platform systems and for the load on the energy systems and the emissions of the defense platforms. Depending on your own interests, you will be involved in research on our aircraft, vehicles or vessels.
For this position we are looking for a colleague with preferably an interest in and experience with the dynamic behavior of platform systems. You have some teaching experience and have a PhD, or are almost finished with a PhD, in a relevant field. You have an affinity with the platforms of defense and are willing to cooperate with ongoing research, and eventually set up your own research in collaboration with our colleagues within defense.
We expect you to take over some of the teaching tasks related to stiffness and strength and/or dynamics. In addition, you will be assigned tasks in project education, where you will supervise groups of students and coordinate large subjects.
Who are you?
From 2025, defense employees will no longer receive their holiday pay and end-of-year bonus as separate benefits, but will build this up monthly via the Individual Choice Budget (IKB). The IKB for defense employees amounts to a total of 16.33 percent of the salary.
With the IKB, defense employees can decide for themselves when, on what and how much budget they spend on time, money or tax facilities. This can be up to the monthly accrued budget. The IKB can be used for:
Defence expects to further expand the possibilities of the IKB in the future.
What will you do?
As a University (Senior) Lecturer at the Military Technological Sciences (MTW) section of the Faculty of Military Sciences (FMW), you are the technical scientific partner of our officers and civilian colleagues at the Ministry of Defence. You do this by teaching within our bachelor's and master's programmes, and by providing professional training to our colleagues. Some colleagues are doing a PhD programme: you are their coach and supervisor. Technology is developing rapidly, so you are constantly working with partners such as TNO, MARIN, NLR and the Technical Universities to develop knowledge that our colleagues need.
You have a unique position in this: you know the questions that exist in the field and translate them into research and development questions. You help answer these questions and bring the knowledge back into our education and the field. You use knowledge from the field in bachelor's and master's education. Education is our core product, but research and development are necessary to give our colleagues the best possible education.
You will work in a team of high-quality and highly motivated colleagues. Due to recent developments, defense must expand significantly and we are therefore looking to expand on a number of key technologies to meet the demand for additional training and research.
We expect you to take over some of the teaching tasks related to your area of expertise. In addition, you will be assigned tasks in general subjects and project education, where you will supervise groups of students and coordinate one of the major subjects.
Within the capacity group, you will be assigned administrative tasks. Depending on your experience, these can be tasks within one of the education committees, examination committees or - if you have more experience - education boards. You will be assigned coaching tasks as a mentor of groups of students.
Research plays an increasingly important role within our group. We conduct research for and with our defence colleagues. We work together with research and development groups within defence, in collaboration with knowledge institutions such as TNO, NLR and MARIN, and with Dutch universities. The young colleagues are coached and introduced by the more experienced colleagues so that they can build their own research. The more experienced colleagues have their own network and research. We do expect you to increasingly focus your research on issues relevant to defence. You do this in consultation with your professor.
We are looking for 7 new colleagues with expertise in the following areas
We are globally deployable for peace and security. A diversity of ways of thinking, perspectives and qualities contributes to achieving our mission: “Protecting what is dear to us.” For this we are specifically looking for new colleagues who contribute to the diversity within Defence.
Defense is also committed to hiring employees who fall under the target group of the Job Agreement Act. If you are registered in the target group register, we also invite you to respond!
Your application documents will be destroyed no later than three months after completion of the selection procedure. This period is longer than the standard period prescribed by the General Data Protection Regulation. This longer period is necessary in the event that an objection and/or appeal procedure is initiated by an internal candidate.
In accordance with internal procedures, employees with a contract of employment with the Ministry of Defence will be considered first. If it appears that no suitable internal candidate can be selected, external interested parties will be considered.
We are the Ministry of Defence. We are indispensable in a world of turmoil. We protect all that we as a nation cherish
