At the Institute of Information Systems Engineering, in the Research Unit of Software Engineering TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (post-doc) limited to expected 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: September 2026.

Tasks:

  • Deep interest in scientific problems and the motivation for independent and goal-oriented research in software engineering, software reliability, software testing, and program analysis
  • Independent teaching or participation in teaching and supervision of students
  • Ability to develop theoretical foundations, methods, algorithms, and research prototypes for building, testing, analyzing, verifying, and debugging reliable software systems
  • Realization and empirical evaluation of research ideas in practical tools and scalable analysis infrastructures
  • Willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects involving modern software systems, such as smart contracts, machine-learning-based systems, and zero-knowledge infrastructure
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty

Your profile:

  • Completion of an excellent doctorate in Computer Science and in-depth knowledge of software engineering, formal methods, or programming languages
  • An outstanding publication record in top Software Engineering, Formal Methods, and/or Programming Languages conferences, such as ICSE, FSE, ASE, ISSTA, CAV, TACAS, OOPSLA, PLDI, or related venues
  • Extensive experience with software development and developing research prototypes
  • Strong research background and publication record in at least one of the following areas: automatic test generation, program analysis, or reliability of modern software systems
  • Strong interest in software reliability, especially of program analyzers, machine-learning-based systems, or zero-knowledge infrastructure
  • Experience in teaching and publication activities as well as excitement about research and work with students
  • Organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
  • Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking
  • Excellent skills in English communication and writing; knowledge of German at level B2 or willingness to learn it

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5,014.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week.
