The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder to join the research group: Natural Products and Food Research and Analysis – Pharmaceutical Technology (NatuRAPT)
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis on the following topic: Unveiling the biological and chemotaxonomic potential of natural products from sea cucumbers.
- Sea cucumbers, a class of marine echinoderms, are traditionally used as a culinary delicacy, as well as in medicine, in particular in Asia. However, the scientific exploration of their potential health benefits lags behind. This project aims to bridge this gap by comprehensively investigating the bioactive constituents of commercially relevant Holothuria sea cucumber species.
- You will publish scientific articles related to the research project and you will present your work at international congresses.
- You are willing to apply for an externally funded research grant (FWO).
- You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for our research group Natural Products and Food Research and Analysis – Pharmaceutical Technology.
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Drug Development or Pharmaceutical Care), Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry or equivalent.
- You can demonstrate excellent study results.
- You have excellent communication and writing skills in (academic) English
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation and you have a good dose of perseverance.
- You have good communication skills, are flexible and disciplined.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders
- You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
- You will have access to additional training opportunities and you will be able to participate in international conferences.
- The planned start date is 1 January 2025 or as soon as possible after that date.
