Research Assistant in Italian Literature 60%

The chair of Prof. Dr. Gabriele Bucchi, at the Italianistics Division of the Linguistics and Literature Department of the University of Basel opens a position for a PhD candidate to be integrated in the team of the Italian Literature section as a scientific assistant (60%), starting on 1 September 2025.
 
The position is aimed at obtaining a PhD in the field of Italian literature, more specifically in Italian literature from the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century (13th - 18th centuries), cultural history, and the history of ideas in relation to Italian culture and literature in the indicated period. The duration of the contract is 4 years.
 

• doctoral research aimed at writing a Phd dissertation, participation in the doctoral program https://dslw.philhist.unibas.ch/en/doctoral-program/
• 2 hours of teaching per week each semester in the Italian literature degree course (proseminar or seminar of BA)
• contribution to the administrative, organizational and logistic tasks of the department
• support to the chair

• Italian C2 or native speaker level, good knowledge of English
• Master's degree in Italian literature or related disciplines (history, art history, philosophy) in relation to Italian culture
• independence, spirit of initiative, ability to work in a team, commitment to the general interest of the chair's team and the literature department
• willingness to be present in Basel for at least three full days per week
