University of Jyväskylä School of Resource Wisdom, JYU.Wisdom is currently seeking to recruit a Wisdom Fellow (Postdoctoral Researcher) or a Senior Researcher in Biodiversity Footprint Assessment for a fixed-term of two years, starting on 1st September 2025, or as agreed.

We are looking for researchers to develop biodiversity footprint and handprint assessments for private and public organizations, procurements, financial investments as well as consumption and production in general.

The researchers will be integrated to the JYU.Wisdom's multi-faculty Biodiversity Footprint Team. We are developing metrics and methodologies for biodiversity footprint assessment together with major living-lab organizations. Our current partners include, for example, S Group, Nokia, Nordea, Sitra, the cities of Tampere and Espoo, SRV, the universities of Jyväskylä, Oulu and Oxford. The researcher to be recruited will develop the calculation of the biodiversity footprint of real estate lending in cooperation with Nordea. In addition, the researcher will study the risk management of lending from the perspective of the biodiversity footprint and more generally the implementation of the biodiversity footprint in the financial and banking sector.


Who we are looking for

You can qualify for to position with many different educational backgrounds. The candidate has a doctorate in business sciences, natural sciences, sustainability sciences or some other applicable field.

The work requires learning biodiversity indicators of biodiversity and biodiversity loss, and previous experience in the use and development of biodiversity indicators or for example carbon footprint analysis is an advantage. A successful candidate has good Excel skills and good command of MS Office programmes. Previous work experience with databases, environmentally extended input-output analyzes or life cycle assessments is an advantage. Knowledge of the R or Python programming language can be useful. The applicant is expected to have strong interaction and teamwork skills.

The duties, qualification requirements, and language skills of a postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The PhD degree required for the position must have been completed before the starting date. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

Department of Biological and Environmental Science

The research in the Department of Biological and Environmental Science focuses on three core areas: evolutionary biology, natural resources and environment, and biological nanoscience. The Department building, Ambiotica, is an integral part of the University of Jyväskylä's Ylistönrinne Mathematics and Science Research Complex, which includes buildings of chemistry, physics and nanoscience. Ambiotica houses high quality laboratories for bioscience and experimental facilities for a wide range of biological and chemical analyses as well as highly motivated laboratory personnel.
