About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services.
We play an instrumental role in Europe by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent. We look for researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to contribute to our projects in areas such as: Network Security, Information Assurance, Model-driven Security, Cloud Computing, Cryptography, Satellite Systems, Vehicular Networks, and ICT Services & Applications.

The successful candidate will join the Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and New Technology (EINT) research group, led by Prof. Christian Fisch. EINT conducts interdisciplinary research on entrepreneurship and innovation, with a particular focus on the areas of entrepreneurial finance (e.g., venture capital, business angels, crowdfunding), sustainable entrepreneurship (e.g., climate change, sustainability certifications, impact investing), and entrepreneurship and AI (e.g., AI adoption by entrepreneurs, AI as a method in entrepreneurship research). Across these areas, the group studies novel phenomena using large-scale data and quantitative methods. EINT aims to realize impact through publications in top journals, presentations at leading international conferences, and close collaboration with industry and policy partners.

Your role

The doctoral researcher's main task is to prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of entrepreneurship, working under the supervision of Prof. Christian Fisch. The thesis will be cumulative (paper-based), with the goal of publishing in leading international entrepreneurship and management journals.

The doctoral researcher will work on a topic within EINT's research areas. The preferred theme is sustainable entrepreneurship, for example, how climate change or environmental shocks affect entrepreneurial activity, the role of sustainability certifications, or impact investing and the financing of sustainable ventures. Candidates are equally welcome to propose research questions in the group's other areas, in particular entrepreneurial finance or entrepreneurship and AI. The thesis will be quantitative-empirical, typically drawing on large-scale datasets and econometric methods, although we are open to other methodological approaches that fit the research question. In all cases, the candidate will join a team of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working on related questions and benefit from EINT's ongoing projects and data infrastructure.

The doctoral researcher's key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting original research with a high degree of independence, from idea development to publication
  • Developing research papers based on large-scale data analysis, targeting leading international journals and taking ownership of the revision and publication process
  • Presenting research at top international conferences and building a professional network in the entrepreneurship research community
  • Completing the training program of the Doctoral School in Economics, Finance and Management

Beyond the core research activities, the doctoral researcher is expected to engage in the broader research activities of the group, including:

  • Contributing to research proposals and funding applications, gaining early experience in grant writing
  • Participating in EINT's outreach and industry collaborations

Your profile

  • A Master's degree or equivalent in management, economics, finance, or a related field e.g., computer science, completed or near completion
  • A strong quantitative profile, including advanced training in empirical research methods and econometrics, as well as experience working with large datasets and statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python
  • A proactive and independent working style, with the curiosity and motivation to develop own research ideas
  • A genuine interest in entrepreneurship research and the ambition to publish research results in leading academic journals
  • Skills in text analysis, machine learning, or AI applications are a plus, but not required
  • Operational Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French, German, or Luxembourgish is NOT required
