About the employer

The Computing Institute (IC) was created at the UFF Technological Center on 12/29/98, through Ordinance No. 1,488/98 of the MEC, published in the DOU of 12/30/98, as a result of the maturation of teaching activities, research and extension developed at UFF in the area of computing. The IC brought together, in the same Unit, a group of professors from the Computer Science Department of the Mathematics Institute and various departments of the School of Engineering.

The IC has a single department, the Department of Computer Science (TCC). Created in 1974, the TCC was initially installed at the Mathematics Institute of the Center for General Studies. At that time, its activities were restricted to offering services to some courses at the university, mainly Engineering, Physics and Mathematics. In 1985, TCC began offering a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. Currently, TCC has 65 teachers on its permanent staff, 59 of whom are doctors, 4 masters, 1 specialist and 1 graduate. TCC currently serves around 2,000 students in its different academic activities.

Today, at IC, teaching, research and extension activities are carried out, and it continues to be responsible for basic computing and numerical methods subjects for various undergraduate courses at UFF. As a consequence of its expansion process, the following courses are under the responsibility of IC:

  • Postgraduate Program in Computing, at Masters and Doctorate level;
  • Undergraduate Course in Computer Science (daytime);
  • Undergraduate Course in Information Systems (evening);
  • Computer Systems Technology Course (blended course, within the scope of the CEDERJ consortium).

Several teaching, research and extension laboratories are also under the responsibility of the IC.
