Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne is a public-spirited institution that makes distinctive contributions to society in research, teaching and engagement. The University of Melbourne provides students with a rich and varied learning experience characterised by an atmosphere of intellectual excitement, an intensive research culture, a commitment to global engagement, clear academic expectations and standards, and a vibrant and exciting social context. In addition, the University encourages its students to take responsibility for their own learning, in order to create dynamic partnerships with peers, teachers and researchers.
Our over-arching aspiration for Learning and Teaching at the University of Melbourne is to attract students of the highest academic potential, regardless of background, and enable them through an outstanding curriculum and university experience to develop as globally aware professionals, citizens and leaders in their communities. Melbourne Students and Learning leads the development and implementation of Learning and Teaching strategies across the University, including the provision of advice and support on curriculum review and design, coordinating responses to government policy initiatives, and the award of Learning and Teaching grants to staff. The portfolio is lead by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) who is also responsible for the University’s e-Learning Strategy and takes a leadership role in evaluation, benchmarking and quality assurance activities.
