As our Ultrasound Technology and Microsystems Specialist, you will build, drive, and grow our acoustics platform, impacting sectors such as Health, Industry & Consumer, and Compute. From low-frequency mid-air applications over new materials and device concepts to high-frequency (photo)acoustic imaging or biomodulation innovations, we will rely on your ultrasound expertise covering the design space, metrology lab and everything in between.

What you will do

  • Drive the development of new ultrasound and optoacoustical microsystems from novel transducer concepts to (photo)acoustic imaging applications.
  • Ideate and design the next generation of ultrasound transducers, from low-frequency MUT to high-frequency BAW and SAW.
  • Characterize and benchmark ultrasound transducers acoustically, electrically, mechanically, and optically.
  • Provide support across multiple projects using your expertise in acoustics, acoustic imaging, and/or acoustic streaming.
  • Maintain a high standard of literature knowledge.
  • Collaborate with specialists from our cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to the creation of a long-term vision and strategy for the group.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. • You have several years of theoretical and practical experience in ultrasound applications and acoustic transducer technology.
  • You have proven experience with ultrasound systems (e.g. Verasonics), acoustic characterization and application-oriented ultrasound imaging.
  • You are proficient in the use of MATLAB or Python, FEM software (e.g. COMSOL) and specialized ultrasound simulation tools (e.g. k-wave or Field-II).
  • Experience with MEMS design and/or microfabrication knowledge are an asset.
  • Experience with in-vivo experiments is an asset.
  • Any project management experience is an asset.
  • The imec environment requires a good team player with good communication and reporting skills. An excellent knowledge of English is mandatory.
