The university is fast gaining recognition for its biomedical research, materials research, environmental sciences, and rehabilitation research. Furthermore, it offers faculties in medicine and life sciences, law, engineering technology, business economics, architecture and the arts. UHasselt also has schools of Transportation Science, Social Sciences and Educational Sciences.

If you're considering UHasselt as your next employer, here are four reasons the university may be a great choice.

REASON 1

UHasselt is a young university with passionate students

Hasselt University has established itself as a modern university for innovative thinkers. Though it focuses heavily on technological subjects and research, it highly values personal contact between students and professors.

As a professor at Hasselt University, you'll have the opportunity to inspire students through small-group teaching seasons. As a younger institution, Hasselt University offers professors an opportunity to make their mark on a university that will grow alongside them. The academic freedom UHasselt offers means you can carve your own path when it comes to inspiring students.

REASON 2

Your work will make an impact, locally and internationally

Maintaining a civic mindset is crucial to the culture at Hasselt University. It recognizes the challenges our societies face with sustainability, globalization, and digitization, and it's committed to being a civic university that confronts these challenges head-on.

Hasselt University makes strong public engagement a core part of its mission. Instead of shying away from the challenges of today, Hasselt University professors and students use those challenges as inspiration for their work and research. As a professor at the university, you'll join a group of like-minded people who wish to make society more agile. But as importantly, you'll work in an institution that considers the Hasselt region as a living laboratory that encourages interaction and engagement from all quarters to create value, both locally and internationally.

REASON 3

You will have autonomy and development opportunities

Hasselt University commits to offering its professors a sustainable work-life balance. Hybrid working is actively encouraged, with teleworking available two days per week for staff members who operate in suitable areas. Part-time positions are also available. Plus, the university offers daycare at moderate rates for children during the spring, Easter, and summer holidays.

These benefits encourage autonomy amongst professors, as do the university's many development opportunities. All staff members have access to dozens of online training courses. More specific training is available to professors who wish to invest in their academic development. Innovation is vital to Hasselt University's success, with lifelong learning being critical to fostering the creative mindset the university encourages.

REASON 4

You get to live in international Hasselt and Belgium

Nestled in the heart of Europe, Belgium is a culturally diverse country that welcomes international employees. English is widely spoken in this open-minded and multilingual country. Furthermore, Hasselt's central position is attractive to the travel-conscious, with nature, seaside, and major European capitals all reachable within an hour or two.

Beyond easy integration into Belgian society, international professors will find Hasselt a beautiful place to live and work. The town has an exciting history, with its market town roots still on full display. With an international population of around 75,000 people, the city's vibrant economic background, combined with the presence of Hasselt University, makes it a place where entrepreneurship flourishes. Commuting distances are short, too, with professors having the option of living in the cosmopolitan capital Brussels while being only an hour-long train ride away from the university.
