The University of Wuppertal is a dynamic, networked and research-oriented campus university. Collectively, more than 25,000 researchers, academic staff and students face the challenges of science, education, culture, economics, society, technology and the environment.

The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in randomised algorithms. The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

Through the institutes IZMD (Interdisciplinary Centre for Machine Learning and Data Analytics), IMACM (Institute for Mathematical Modelling, Analysis and Computational Mathematics), PHI (Port-Hamiltonian Institute), and the theoretical particle physics group we offer an excellent environment for challenging research projects and collaborations.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant, internationally visible research on randomised algorithms at the interplay between theoretical computer sciences (e.g., approximation algorithms for NP-hard problems, or theory of machine learning), practical computer sciences (e.g., asynchronous parallel programming), and applied mathematics (e.g., numerical linear algebra or optimisation).
  • Clear connections to other research areas within the research group of Mathematics and Computer Sciences and the IZMD.
  • In teaching, the professor will serve and complement the offer in the field of computer sciences, mainly in the undergraduate computer science degree programmes, but also including service lectures. We expect participation in the continuous development of the Computer Sciences curricula.
  • Participation in academic self-administration is considered a matter of course.
  • Experience in developing new areas of application is desirable.
