BlueApp, an initiative of University of Antwerp, is an open innovation hub that brings together industry and academia to enrich the integrated ecosystem of sustainable chemistry. BlueApp wants  to accelerate and stimulate  sustainable innovations that tackle today’s climate emergency, the most dominant challenge of our generation. This state-of-the-art facility is located at the sustainable and eco-effective business park Blue Gate Antwerp and will start operations in Q2 2022. Now is the “momentum” and unique opportunity to join the BlueApp team, at the very first growing and shaping steps.

Head Operations BlueApp

Position

  • You ensure that BlueApp has effective operational procedures in place.
  • You are responsible for daily operations .
  • You ensure an optimal service and compliance with the agreements made with external customers. In addition to impeccable quality, you ensure professional reporting and compliance with the project timeline, with a focus on effectiveness and efficiency.
  • You identify issues and inefficiencies and make recommendations for process improvements to minimize costs and enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • You are responsible for building and equipment maintenance (incl. ICT). You discuss, negotiate and follow-up technical, calibration and/or engineering services provided by the university or external partners in order to maintain the BlueApp building up and running.
  • You coordinate and manage all logistic activities related to BlueApp. You negotiate prices with suppliers. You ensure that all materials are stored according to the required conditions.
  • You propose and implement strategic planning and objectives in order to align with the BlueApp budget strategy and to promote revenue, profitability and growth.
  • You support the BlueApp team, in
    • the development of appropriate quality standards and a quality management system, preparation of audits;
    • performing a risk assessment for each new project (including research) involving hazardous materials;
    • enforcing the necessary safety standards and working guidelines.
  • You report to the BlueApp Valorisation Manager and provide project status updates and estimates

Profile

  • You hold a Master of Science (MSc).
  • A PhD in engineering, science or related field and/or an MBA can be additional assets.
  • You have 10+ years of experience in operational management in a research driven environment.
  • You have good knowledge of chemical processes at a research and demonstration scale, including operations, equipment handling and safety (ATEX, Seveso…).
  • You show outstanding organisational and leadership skills combined with excellent people management skills and work ethics.
  • You can maintain control of diverse operations in parallel and plan strategically.
  • You provide management and vision to help BlueApp to grow.
  • You have aptitude for decision-making, problem solving and proactivity.
  • You show a hands-on mentality.
  • You are able to diagnose problems quickly and have a foresight into potential issues.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You have working knowledge of IT/MS Office.
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.

What we offer

  • We offer a fulltime appointment for an unlimited period.
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary as a cell coordinator within pay band 7.1-9.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade depends on your relevant professional experience.
  • You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • We offer flexible working hours.
  • You will have 40 days of annual leave and collective leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
  • The planned start date is as soon as possible.
  • You will do most of your work at BlueApp – Blue Gate site - in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
