Your role

The successful candidate will join the young, vibrant, and interdisciplinary FINATRAX Research Group, which builds bridges between business research and information systems engineering. The group conducts research on the application and the impact of digital technologies like DLT/Blockchain, Digital Identities, Machine Learning/AI, GenAI, and IoT/5G on organisations from both the private and public sectors. The group consists of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds (e.g., policy, business, technology), united in pursuit of sustainable technologies that positively impact society. The person will pursue a Ph.D. degree (Doctorate) in computer science and information system engineering while collaborating in a publicly funded research project with our industry partner Encevo. In this project, the aim is to analyze and build a robust anonymization techniques in the context of the industry partner for a varying range of data types (both structured and unstructured data). The proposed solution aims to address the key challenge of balancing data utility with privacy by developing techniques that optimize both aspects. The candidate will perform the work together with a team of postdoctoral researchers who are experts on the field and other PhD student working in the topic.

In general, the candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Carry out research in fields of interest to the research group, such as:
    • Research state-of-the-art anonymization
    • Analyze and assess risks of de-anonymization, including researching current de-anonymization strategies
    • Deploying and benchmarking anonymization methods.
    • Investigation of state-of-the-art methods from cryptography and privacy and see their connection to the project context
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications in outlets on the intersection between computer science, power engineering and information systems
  • Support the conceptualization and writing of research proposals to attract industry partnerships as well as national and European grant projects
  • Conduct research projects and create project deliverables 

Your profile

  • Master's degree in computer science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems (Engineering), or related fields with a statistics/ mathematic background
  • Strong programming skills in at least one major programming language
  • Interest in applying relevant mathematical modeling techniques
  • A collaborative team player with a desire to make a personal impact within our interdisciplinary research group
  • The commitment to participate in the design and implementation of high-quality solutions that solve significant problems
  • Self-initiative, creativity, curiosity, flexibility and enthusiasm to work
  • The position requires English-language proficiency for both written and verbal communication Knowledge of French, German and/or Luxembourgish is not required
